Series of conferences on racism and ethno-racial discriminations in Luxembourg

The Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, in collaboration with LISER and CEFIS, has organised a series of four conferences on racism and ethno-racial discrimination.

The recordings of the first two conferences are now available on our Youtube channel and below.

I. Conference: Racism and stereotypes: putting the situation in Luxembourg into perspective (3 videos)

With the participation of Patrick Hurst (Centre pour l'Egalité de Traitement - CET, Luxembourg), Cihan Sinanoglu (Deutsches Zentrum für Integrations und Migrationsforschung - DeZIM, Germany), Anne Calteux (European Commission in Luxembourg) and Michel Tenikue (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research - LISER, Luxembourg). The conference focuses on the measurement of racism and stereotypes in Luxembourg, in comparison with other European countries, and policies to combat racism.

II. Conference: Ethno-racial discrimination in Luxembourg: perceptions of the population (2 videos)

With the participation of Vida Beresneviciute (EU agency for Fundamental Rights, Equality, Roma & Social Rights Unit - FRA, Austria), Patrick Charlier (Interfederal Centre for Equal Opportunities - UNIA, Belgium) and Frédéric Docquier (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research - LISER, Luxembourg). The conference will focuses on perceptions of ethno-racial discrimination and assistance to victims in Luxembourg and in other European countries.

III Conference: Invisibilité et inconscience du racisme

With the participation of David Bourguignon (Université de Lorraine -France), Karin Weyer (Respect.lu, Luxembourg), and Frédéric Mertz (Centre d'Etude et de Formation interculturelles et sociales - CEFIS, Luxembourg). The session will look at the social dynamics and psychosocial processes that foster racism. It will contextualise the results of the racism study with a theoretical input on the reasons for the invisibility and unconsciousness of racism.

IV. Conference: La place de la culture et de l'éducation dans la lutte contre le racisme

With the participation of Antonia Ganeto (Centre de Documentation et d'Animations Interkulturelles -IKL, Luxembourg), Sabrina Castello (Ally Book Club - Luxembourg), Régis Moes (Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art - MNHA, Luxembourg) and Sylvain Besch (Centre d'Etude et de Formation interculturelles et sociales - CEFIS, Luxembourg). The session discussed how the education and culture sector can contribute to the fight against racism, based on the experiences of three projects and the results of the racism study.
