The "Senior Drivers Day" - a day dedicated to raising awareness among seniors on the subject of road safety - is an initiative of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, in collaboration with the "GERO - Centre of Competence for Ageing" and the "Centre de Formation pour Conducteurs" in Colmar-Berg, and with the support of the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.

Active ageing policy is an important focus of the Ministry's policy for the elderly. The main objectives in this area are to improve the quality of life, maintain the health of those concerned and promote their participation in social life.

The aim of the "Senior Drivers Day" is therefore:

  • make participants aware of the dangers in road traffic;
  • improve participants' responsiveness and alertness in road traffic;
  • to inform participants about the effects of age-related mobility and health problems;
  • to inform participants about best practices and appropriate behaviour in road traffic as well as about future mobility developments;
  • to give participants the opportunity to discuss their specific problems and questions with road safety experts and other senior citizens.
