Volunteering allows for a range of achievements that would otherwise not be possible. The social sector offers a wide range of commitments in the fields of health, youth, culture, rescue services, sports, tourism and the environment, among others. Volunteers are one of the backbones of our society, lending their time and energy to a given project. Volunteering is not a one-way street; it offers an intangible return, a personal enrichment.
From a historical point of view, the International Year of Volunteering 2001 gave an important boost to volunteering in Luxembourg.
In 2002, at the instigation of the Ministry for Family Affairs, the Higher Council for Volunteering was created. A year later, in 2003, the Agency for Volunteering was inaugurated and the Volunteering Portal was launched.
This portal presents all associations currently operating in Luxembourg, and offers an online platform that allows interested people to find activities, and associations to find volunteers. The portal also offers advice to volunteers and associations on the subject of volunteering.
